"Using a local ride-hailing service, for example, can prevent you from paying double the normal rate, or failing to find a driver at all, said Cara Laban, 32, who created TravelReddi, a website that helps users find local apps, after her frustrations using Uber in Spain led her to a local alternative."
"TravelReddi should be the first stop for anyone planning a trip abroad. It's a one-stop solution for all the things you need to know before you go."
About TravelReddi
TravelReddi is a free travel preparation platform that builds a personalized pre-trip guide from two inputs: your passport country and your destination. Each guide covers visa and entry requirements, the local apps residents actually use, SIM and eSIM options, currency and ATM guidance, airport-to-city transport, neighborhood safety, scam alerts, cultural etiquette, accessibility and dietary information, and a smart packing list.
The platform currently covers all 51 countries with neighborhood-level detail across 161 cities, and is free to use. TravelReddi launched in 2026 and is available on the web, iOS, and Android.

Long (150 words)
Cara Laban is the founder of TravelReddi, a free travel preparation platform that builds personalized pre-trip guides based on a traveler's passport and destination. She has traveled and lived nomadically for roughly a decade, and previously spent six years running a tech consulting business helping small business owners get comfortable with technology and automation. TravelReddi began with a bus station in Spain, where an Uber that never arrived taught her that the city ran on Cabify — information she could have had before she landed. She built the platform solo, without a technical background, using AI development tools. TravelReddi was featured in The New York Times in March 2026 and named to The Story Exchange's 2026 list of 15 Brilliant Business Ideas from Bold Women. It now covers all 51 countries and 161 cities, and is free to use.
What I can talk about
Topic angles for interviews, panels, and features.
The questions travelers don't know to ask
A friend Googled "do I need a visa for the US," got the correct answer — no — and was denied boarding because she needed an ESTA, which is not a visa. It cost her $1,000 and two days. Why search engines and AI assistants can answer your question perfectly and still leave you stranded, and how to find the gap in what you know.
The safety questions the travel industry hasn't answered
How do you find out about a local scam before it happens to you? How do you actually assess whether a destination is safe for a solo woman, or a queer traveler, past a country-level rating? These questions were asked at a travel industry panel and went unanswered. TravelReddi exists because of that afternoon.
Building a travel tech company solo, without writing code
A non-technical founder shipping a 51-country data product using AI tooling — what that took, what broke, and what it means for who gets to build in travel technology now.
